OpenAI passes $12B run rate

ChatGPT now has 700M weekly active users

👋 Good morning/evening (wherever you are). It’s Thursday.

OpenAI has doubled revenue in the first seven months of 2025, now generating $1 billion per month, according to The Information.

ChatGPT weekly active users have climbed to 700 million, up from 500 million in March.

The growth comes with heavy costs:

  • $8 billion projected cash burn for 2025

  • $14 billion in server rental spending this year

  • $40 billion funding round in progress, with $7.5 billion already committed

Meanwhile, rival Anthropic has hit a $4 billion run rate and is targeting a $170 billion valuation in its next raise.

OK let’s keep going ↓

🔥 Creative pulse

This is the most relaxing AI-generated video you’ll see this year.

(Not every vision of the future is dystopian)

It’s from Page Stephenson. I watched it many times in a row.

I love that he’s making the kind of work we didn’t know we were missing. No shock, no noise, just the world unfolding as it should.

PS: I’m launching an AI creative community by next Monday. Thanks for being patient. I’ll share the link here first. Keep an eye out.

🧠 Thought starters

The “year of agents” and the rise of code generation have reshaped the LLM leaderboard.

Anthropic is now the #1 enterprise LLM provider according to Menlo Ventures’ 2025 Mid-Year LLM Market Update: Foundation Model Landscape + Economics.

Six months after their last analysis, the data is clear:

  • 32% enterprise market share vs OpenAI’s 25% (down from 50% in 2023)

  • 42% share in code generation, double OpenAI

  • Enterprises are moving to closed frontier models, even as prices fall 10x

  • Open‑source adoption has stalled at 13%
