OpenAI is building a social network

Would you join?

👋 Good morning/evening (wherever you are). It’s Tuesday.

Multiple sources say OpenAI is building a social network.

These two tweets are key:

  1. Back in February, Sam hinted at this in response to the Meta “AI app” rumor.

  1. He’s been (understandably) hyping OpenAI since 2016.

OK let’s keep going ↓

Here’s what you should know:

The numbers:

  • Compal, Wiwynn (a Wistron affiliate), and U.S.-based Jabil are preparing revised bids for AMD’s AI server assembly plants, which could sell for $3–4 billion. Inventec and Pegatron have exited the race.

  • Alibaba-backed AI startup Zhipu plans IPO as early as 2025, aiming to be first among China’s ChatGPT rivals to go public.

Thought starters:

Watch this YouTube video from Google DeepMind’s channel.

It features David Silver, VP of Reinforcement Learning at DeepMind. He’s been talking about RL for over a decade…seriously, you can find full courses from him on YouTube dating back to 2015.

At one point in the video, this question comes up: “Can AI design its own reinforcement learning algorithms?”

Short answer: Yes.

Meme of the day:

Thanks for reading,

Eddie
