OpenAI acquires Sky, an AI interface

The team behind Apple’s Shortcuts app

👋 Good morning or evening, wherever you are. It’s Thursday.

OpenAI has acquired Software Applications Incorporated, the creators of Sky, a natural language interface for macOS and the team behind Apple’s Shortcuts app. The group previously sold its Workflow app to Apple in 2017.

Sky brings context awareness to the desktop, allowing AI to understand what’s on your screen and take action using your apps.

OpenAI plans to integrate Sky’s macOS craftsmanship into ChatGPT, bringing AI closer to the tools people use every day.

Nick Turley, VP and Head of ChatGPT, said the acquisition “accelerates our vision of bringing AI directly into the tools people use every day.”

Ari Weinstein, CEO of Software Applications Incorporated, added that “with LLMs, we can finally make computers more empowering, customizable, and intuitive.”

This marks a shift toward experiences that feel native, not layered on.

OK let’s keep going ↓

Game engines built worlds…now prompts will build them faster.

Next-gen telecom isn’t about faster signals, it’s about smarter ones.

Google Earth AI is less about maps and more about understanding Earth itself (satellite data —> planetary intelligence).

The future of advertising looks more like an app library than a campaign brief.

The future of gaming is as much about systems as stories.

💰 The numbers

  • Crusoe Energy raises $1.38B Series E at a $10B valuation, co-led by Valor Equity Partners and Mubadala Capital, with participation from Nvidia, Fidelity, and Founders Fund to expand AI data-center infrastructure and compute capacity.

  • Palantir enters $200M partnership with Lumen Technologies to deliver enterprise AI services, combining Palantir’s Foundry and AIP with Lumen’s edge infrastructure to help businesses modernize operations and cut costs.

  • Bezos Earth Fund launches a $30M AI Grand Challenge to support teams using AI for climate and biodiversity breakthroughs, from ecosystem modeling to species identification.

  • Wonder Studios raises $12M Seed round led by Atomico, backed by Adobe Ventures, Sidemen’s Upside Ventures, and AI pioneer Freepik CEO Joaquín Cuenca, marking a new era of AI-driven storytelling.

🧠 Thought starters

3 things to think about…

1.) We’re one feature update away from couples therapy with ChatGPT.

It already reads your tone, remembers context, and mirrors your rhythm. The next step is emotional intelligence at scale.

2.) AI teams and iBankers finally found common ground — hallucinating at work.

Both are optimizing reality under pressure, chasing gains just out of reach.

But the distinction still matters. Banking manipulated numbers, and AI manipulates perception.

3.) We’re in the Will Smith Spaghetti stage of AI games.

The work looks ridiculous until it doesn’t. Every experiment is a sign of a new medium figuring out what it can be.
