Meta cutting 600 AI jobs
Moves from foundational research to applied AI
👋 Good morning or evening, wherever you are. It’s Wednesday.
Meta is cutting about 600 roles from its long-standing AI divisions (FAIR, product AI, and infrastructure) to streamline decision-making and refocus on agility. At the same time, it’s hiring for its new TBD Lab led by chief AI officer Alexandr Wang, reflecting Zuckerberg’s broader push toward superintelligence development.
The restructuring marks a pivot from large-scale research and infrastructure to smaller, elite teams built for speed, precision, and impact.

OK let’s keep going ↓

💡 Here’s what you should know
Amazon introduced Blue Jay, a multi-arm robotics system, and Project Eluna, an agentic AI model that helps operators anticipate bottlenecks and optimize fulfillment. Both tools are designed to make warehouse work safer, smarter, and faster while expanding Same-Day Delivery capabilities.

They also introduced AI-powered smart delivery glasses that use computer vision and real-time navigation to help drivers stay hands-free, identify hazards, and deliver packages more safely and efficiently while reducing reliance on phones.

Reddit filed a federal lawsuit against Perplexity AI and several data-scraping firms, accusing them of running an “industrial-scale” operation to harvest Reddit user comments for commercial AI training. The suit alleges that Perplexity knowingly bought scraped data instead of licensing it, marking Reddit’s second major legal action against an AI company following its case against Anthropic.

Snapchat launched the Imagine Lens globally, letting anyone type a prompt and instantly generate AI images directly in the camera. Previously limited to subscribers, it is now free in the U.S. and expanding to Canada, the U.K., and Australia, giving hundreds of millions of users a new creative playground powered by generative AI.

GM unveiled major updates across autonomy, AI, and vehicle software, announcing eyes-off driving by 2028, conversational AI powered by Google Gemini, and a unified computing platform debuting on the Cadillac Escalade IQ. The company says these systems will turn cars into intelligent assistants that learn, adapt, and improve over time.

Google achieved the first verifiable quantum advantage with its new Quantum Echoes algorithm running on the Willow chip, performing molecular modeling 13,000 times faster than top supercomputers. The breakthrough marks a major step toward practical quantum applications in chemistry and materials science.

💰 The numbers
Applied Digital signs $5B AI infrastructure lease with a U.S.-based hyperscaler for 200 MW at its Polaris Forge 2 campus, bringing total capacity to 600 MW and solidifying its position in large-scale AI data centers.
SoftBank launches $2.9B bond sale to fuel its expanding AI investments, including its major stake in OpenAI.
Uniphore raises $260M Series F (valuation $2.5B) backed by NVIDIA, AMD, Snowflake, and Databricks Ventures to scale its Business AI Cloud and expand enterprise AI capabilities.
UnifyApps raises $50M Series B led by WestBridge Capital (valuation ~$250M) to expand its AI-powered enterprise automation platform and names Sprinklr founder Ragy Thomas as co-CEO.
Starbridge raises $42M Series A led by Craft Ventures to expand its AI-powered govtech platform that helps sales teams identify and act on public sector opportunities.
Sumble emerges from stealth with $38.5M funding led by Canaan Partners and Coatue to expand its AI-driven sales intelligence platform founded by Kaggle creators Anthony Goldbloom and Ben Hamner.
Moonshot AI raises $10M Seed round led by Mighty Capital to expand its autonomous website optimization platform that uses generative AI to self-optimize e-commerce and enterprise sites.
🧠 Thought starters
Over 3,000 scientists, leaders, and public figures including Geoffrey Hinton, Yoshua Bengio, Steve Wozniak, and Richard Branson have signed a global statement calling for a ban on developing superintelligence until it can be proven safe and controllable.

Given that renewed urgency, it’s worth revisiting what Nick Bostrom outlined more than a decade ago: the core “cognitive superpowers” of a true superintelligence, including intelligence amplification, strategizing, social manipulation, hacking, and technological acceleration. Once theoretical, they’re now emerging across modern AI systems.
Again, the question is whether humanity can align them before they align themselves.

😂 Meme of the day
Challenging the uncanny valley: AheadForm has unveiled the new hyper-realistic male robot, Origin M1. Compared to their previous female robot, I personally still prefer the feel of the female face! 😂
