Is Suno worth $2 billion?
AI's impact on the global music industry
👋 Good morning or evening, wherever you are. It’s Friday.
Suno is positioning itself as the “Spotify meets GPT” of music, letting anyone generate full songs from text prompts.
After raising $125M to build its generative engine, it is now in talks to raise another $100M at a $2B valuation while negotiating settlements with major labels.
Its system already creates melody, harmony, instruments, and vocals with near-human realism. The technology is no longer the challenge. The real battle is control. Labels want a cut, creators want credit, and regulators will want a say.
If Suno aligns licensing, monetization, and cultural acceptance, it could become the backbone of a new global music economy.
If it fails, it will drag the entire AI audio movement down with it.
Either way, the line between artist and algorithm is gone for good.

OK let’s keep going ↓

Commentary below:
💯 The difference between 4% growth and 2% growth is doubling the economy every 18 years vs every 36 years. For the material welfare and living standards of the citizenry, literally nothing matters more than that.

🧠 Thought starters
3 things to think about…
1.) We’ve never seen a technology adopted this fast, because for the first time, the product learns as quickly as the users do.

2.) The boundary between imagination and execution is disappearing.
Marc Andreessen says that AI will enable creative geniuses to make incredible movies without studio budgets.
" I think we're going to get completely new kinds of film and entertainment from people who otherwise never would have been able to access the medium."

3.) AI is getting so real it now collides with legacy, law, and memory. We’ve reached the point where innovation itself has to negotiate with the past.
