Google reveals AI agent for science

Discovering new high-value knowledge

👋 Good morning/evening (wherever you are). It’s Wednesday.

Google DeepMind pulled back the curtain on their AI coding agent called AlphaEvolve.

Here’s an excerpt that will blow your mind:

To investigate AlphaEvolve’s breadth, we applied the system to over 50 open problems in mathematical analysis, geometry, combinatorics and number theory. The system’s flexibility enabled us to set up most experiments in a matter of hours. In roughly 75% of cases, it rediscovered state-of-the-art solutions, to the best of our knowledge.

And in 20% of cases, AlphaEvolve improved the previously best known solutions, making progress on the corresponding open problems. For example, it advanced the kissing number problem. This geometric challenge has fascinated mathematicians for over 300 years and concerns the maximum number of non-overlapping spheres that touch a common unit sphere. AlphaEvolve discovered a configuration of 593 outer spheres and established a new lower bound in 11 dimensions.

Still not convinced?

One algorithm it discovered has been powering Borg, Google’s massive cluster management system. This scheduling heuristic recovers an average of 0.7% of Google’s worldwide computing resources continuously — a staggering efficiency gain at Google’s scale.

Switching gears:

Check out this AI video I shared on LinkedIn — it’s a pretty cool Redbull spec ad. Sure, it’s not perfect, but imagine the quality a year from now.

If you’re an artist, start building an AI portfolio now. I’m convinced solo creators who master this will land 6-figure deals (or more) within the next few years as part of the top 1%.

OK let’s keep going ↓

Here’s what you should know:

The numbers:

  • Super Micro has secured a multi-year, $20 billion partnership with Saudi data center developer DataVolt to deliver AI infrastructure across Saudi Arabia and the U.S.

  • Databricks is acquiring Neon for $1 billion, an open-source database startup focused on boosting AI agent development.

  • TensorWave has raised $100 million in a funding round led by Magnetar and AMD Ventures, bringing its total capital raised to $146.7 million as it expands its AMD-powered data center infrastructure.

  • Arrive AI, an autonomous delivery network company, will list on Nasdaq under the symbol ARAI on May 15, 2025, after raising $52 million through crowdfunding and an institutional investor.

  • Openlayer raised $14.5 million in a Series A led by Race Capital to scale its enterprise AI governance platform.
