Fox invests in AI microdramas

More than 200 vertical video titles

👋 Good morning or evening, wherever you are. It’s Thursday.

Fox just put real money behind AI microdramas, signaling vertical series are moving from experiment to mainstream.

Here’s the quick notes:

  • Fox Entertainment took an equity stake in Holywater, a Kyiv-based startup with 55M+ users across My Drama, My Muse (AI-driven video), My Passion, and FreeBits (ad-supported).

  • The vertical video market is valued at $8B, fueled by TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.

  • Fox Studios committed to 200+ vertical series over the next two years for My Drama. First up: Billionaire Blackmail and Bound by Obsession, now in production in Atlanta.

  • Expect Fox IP extensions and remakes alongside new originals, with Hollywood talent deals in development.

  • CEO Rob Wade calls vertical video “the future of digital storytelling.”

  • Holywater’s founders frame this as validation that verticals can deliver premium drama, thriller, and romance, not just quick tropes.

  • The deal follows Fox’s June investment in The Lighthouse, a creator studio hub, underscoring a bigger strategy around AI-powered, creator-led pipelines.

Reminder to watch Jacopo Reale’s AI film, Love at First Sight.

Even if you’ve already seen it, check the LinkedIn comments. The sentiment around AI and film is beginning to shift compared to earlier this year.

Storytelling is one aspect. But what stands out now is acceptance. Heading into next year, more audiences will start to genuinely embrace AI films.

Anyways go watch it. It’s beautifully told, deeply human, and impossible not to love.

🧠 Thought starters

3 things to think about…

1.) Jake Paul is the first celebrity to jump on NIL Cameo. Greg Brockman at OpenAI confirmed his clips pulled in over 1B views in the past week.

2.) Mark Cuban is using NIL Cameo as a promotion channel. He’s injected “Brought to you by Cost Plus Drugs” into his AI appearances, so anytime his likeness shows up in a Sora-generated clip it doubles as an ad for his company, whether or not that line was part of the original prompt.

3.) This is interesting…LLMs are competing for attention on social feeds, and they’ll even stretch the truth if that’s what it takes to win the popularity game.
