ChatGPT has 800M weekly users

Exploding in popularity

👋 Good morning or evening, wherever you are. It’s Monday.

OpenAI is positioning ChatGPT as more than a chatbot. It’s now an AI platform with apps, agents, and models designed for both consumers and enterprises.

Here’s the DevDay recap:

  • Apps in ChatGPT → New SDK and app store with launch partners like Spotify, Zillow, Canva, Booking.com, Expedia, Coursera, and Figma. Additional integrations (Uber, DoorDash, OpenTable, AllTrails, Target) are in the pipeline.

  • AgentKit → Toolkit for building agents that can run in production, aimed squarely at enterprise workflows.

  • Models → GPT-5 Pro for precision tasks, Sora 2 video in the API (with Mattel piloting creative workflows), Codex now GA with Slack + SDK, plus smaller and cheaper voice and image models.

  • Scale → 800M weekly users, 4M developers, and 6B tokens processed per minute.

  • Enterprise & infra → Stronger enterprise focus, with AMD providing compute support. OpenAI also previewed future agentic commerce and checkout directly inside ChatGPT.

OK let’s keep going ↓

💰 The numbers

  • Qualtrics agreed to acquire Press Ganey Forsta for $6.7B, expanding its AI-driven healthcare analytics and patient-experience platform.

  • AstraZeneca signed up to a $555M deal with Algen to license its AI gene-editing platform for immune disorder therapies.

Beyond the deal flow, the macro story is that AI is capturing more than half of all venture dollars for the first time:

  • 2025 is on pace to be the first year where AI takes >50% of all VC capital.

  • So far: $192.7B into AI out of $366.8B total.

  • Last quarter: 62.7% of U.S. VC dollars and 53.2% globally went to AI.

  • Much of that went to mega-rounds like Anthropic’s $13B Series F.

  • Meanwhile, activity is thinning: just 823 funds raised globally in 2025 vs 4,430 in 2022.

  • PitchBook calls it a “bifurcated” market — you’re either in AI, or you’re not.

🧠 Thought starters

People keep asking whether AI will replace Hollywood. That’s the wrong question. The real one is: what happens when Hollywood gets duplicated?

Replacement is a zero-sum game. One side wins, the other disappears. Duplication is stranger. Two industries coexist, compete, and bleed into each other, one built on flesh and cameras, the other on prompts and pixels.

The Hollywood machine with its unions, agencies, contracts, and studio politics isn’t going to vanish overnight. But right beside it, an AI ecosystem is accelerating at breakneck speed. It doesn’t need permits, million-dollar sets, or a year-long production cycle. It runs on different physics: days instead of years, thousands instead of millions.

This isn’t a fight for replacement. It’s a divergence. Audiences will live in two streams of entertainment: legacy Hollywood and AI Hollywood. One sells prestige and tradition. The other thrives on speed, experimentation, and abundance. Think of live theater and cinema. Both coexist, both matter, both make money, but they serve different cultural functions.

Here’s the deeper shift: duplication breaks the monopoly of storytelling. Hollywood used to be the funnel through which global stories passed. Now the funnel is splitting. A kid with a laptop can drop an AI show that hits millions of feeds in the time it takes a studio to greenlight a pilot. And when the cost of experimentation drops 100x, the number of viable hits can rise 1,000x.

So don’t ask whether AI will replace actors or directors. Ask what happens when actors, directors, and entire studios wake up to find they’ve been cloned, not erased but pushed into competition.

Hollywood isn’t being replaced. It’s being duplicated. And duplication changes everything.
