$3,000 AI "Supercomputer"
Is it worth it?
👋 Good morning/evening (wherever you are). It’s Tuesday. If you’re thinking about switching from your lovely MacBook to a new AI Supercomputer…then NVIDIA is taking reservations for its shiny new object, called DGX Spark.
Personally, I’ll wait…now time for some trivia.
Where was the first AI-generated edition of a newspaper published?
Answer: Italy.
An Italian newspaper says it has become the first in the world to publish an edition that was produced entirely by artificial intelligence. The four-page edition of Il Foglio, called Il Foglio AI, hit newsstands in Italy and became available online on Tuesday.
According to Il Foglio editor Claudio Cerasa, AI was used for everything: “the writing, the headlines, the quotes, the summaries. And, sometimes, even for the irony.” The edition is part of a monthlong initiative by the publication to evaluate the possible effects of AI technologies on how we work.
The Guardian noted that the AI articles appeared straightforward and clear and were free of any obvious grammatical errors, but that there were no quotes directly from human beings. On the final page were a series of AI-generated letters from readers to the editor, one of which asked if AI would make humans “useless.” The AI response: “AI is a great innovation, but it doesn’t yet know how to order a coffee without getting the sugar wrong.”
